Toryn Davis Black is a fine woodworker based in Asheville, working in Hendersonville, NC. A lifelong seeker, she spent twenty years as a clinical social worker and returned to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2018. The slower pace of mountain life and the pandemic years allowed her to notice a long-ignored desire for creativity and making.
Coming from a long line of makers, Toryn enrolled in Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program (2023-2025), where she refined fine woodcraft skills and developed a deep appreciation for Craft. In 2024, she founded Toryn Black Design, creating hand-built furniture and homewares that blend artistry with thoughtful design to bring beauty into the everyday.
