Toryn Davis Black is a fine woodworker based in Asheville, working in Hendersonville, NC. A lifelong seeker, she spent twenty years as a clinical social worker and returned to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2018. The slower pace of mountain life and the pandemic years allowed her to notice a long-ignored desire for creativity and making.

Coming from a long line of makers, Toryn enrolled in Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program (2023-2025), where she learned fine woodcraft skills and fell in love with craft. In 2024, she founded Toryn Black Design, creating hand-built furniture and homewares that blend artistry with thoughtful design to bring magic into the everyday, mundane tasks.

Toryn is currently in the Emerging Art Program with Craft Guild of the Southern Highlands and will be showing work at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands July 16-19, 2026 in Asheville, NC.
