MADE FOR YOU
CUSTOM WORK & COMMISSIONS
Toryn Black Design would love to create a one-of-a-kind piece for your home. I am passionate about crafting modern wood furniture that balances art and function, drawing inspiration from Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and mid-century modern design aesthetics. My focus right now is on freestanding furniture and small objects for the home where I can offer my best craftsmanship.
If my style resonates with you, I invite you to reach out. Commissioned work is a collaborative process—rooted in conversation, care, and a shared vision, to create something truly personal and enduring.
Below you’ll find answers to a few frequently asked questions to help you understand the commission process.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Most commissioned furniture pieces are completed within 2–4 months of the design being finalized and the deposit being received. Small homewares may have a shorter timeline. Timelines may vary slightly depending on the complexity of the piece and the current studio schedule. I’ll always communicate the timing clearly before we begin.
-
Commissioned furniture pieces typically range from $1,500–$5,000. Pricing is based on scale, materials, and design complexity. Homewares range from $200-1000 depending on project. Once we discuss your vision, I’ll provide a clear quote before moving forward.

First, you will reach out by completing the form below. I will respond to set up a time for a phone call. We’ll begin with a conversation about your space, needs, and design preferences. If we decide to move forward together, I’ll develop a design proposal which begins with a $500 non-refundable deposit for draft and initial quote of the project. Next, I will present the design proposal to you and we will work together to approve it. If you like the design and would like to move forward, you will pay a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the entire cost. This is required once the design is agreed upon. This deposit secures your place in the build schedule and allows materials to be ordered and work to begin. All commissioned work includes a written contract outlining the design, materials, timeline, payment schedule, and delivery details. This ensures clarity and care for both of us throughout the process.the contract is signed, and the deposit is received, your piece enters the build phase.

Each commission begins with a conversation. Handmade fine woodwork is an investment of your money and my time. There should be trust and open, clear communication. If I feel a project isn’t aligned with my style, skills, tools, or experience, I’ll let you know openly and, when possible, help connect you with other makers who may be better suited to the work.
-
I love mid-century modern-inspired furniture—anything with arches or curves. I love Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Really, anything modern. I am not your maker if you are looking for traditional designs or replicas. I’m especially excited to create record cabinets and vinyl storage furniture. If you have a project in mind that aligns with my aesthetic and approach, I’d love to hear about it.

Not currently. Built-ins require a different scope of experience and installation expertise, and I’m taking time to grow into that work thoughtfully. My focus right now is on freestanding furniture and objects where I can offer my best craftsmanship.
